INNOVATION // NEW CONCEPTS

These design concepts are innovations as they have been applied successfully on the market. Some fashion designers experiment with new
digital technologies to integrate electronic components into the garments, which we refer to as wearable technology. Others test new materials
that make the clothing durable and attractive, worn longer and thereby more sustainable.

Upcycling Fashion

Description:

The Upcycling Fashion Store Berlin was the first concept store specializing in upcycling fashion. The founders also produce fine upcycling button down shirts and blouses under their label "aluc".  The material stems from left over fabric waste. Aluc works closely with upcycling producers in Bulgaria and social projects and sheltered workshops in Berlin. Design, distribution, packaging and quality-control are executed at the studio of the “Upcycling- Fashion Store” in Berlin-Mitte.

Uniqueness:

The collars of the shirts are removable as they are usually the first thing that gets worn out. Instead of throwing a shirt away, aluc provided new collars and makes sure the shirt's life gets extended. Furthermore, this gives the wearers the opportunity to change their style by reducing the amount of shirts in their closets.

Result:

The media echo for the Upcycling Fashion Store and aluc is big. Upcycling becomes a true movement. The next step is to go into mass production.
